Thanksgiving – Joseph
“Hello everyone! Do you know about the American holiday of Thanksgiving?
On the last Thursday of every November, American families get together for a large feast. Most families eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. This large meal is part of a very special day — the holiday of Thanksgiving.
In 1620, the Pilgrims made a difficult trip across the ocean from England. They entered the port of Massachusetts and began to promote and practice their religion, or special beliefs. They had to leave England because they could not practice their religion freely. That is why they went to the New world, America, to have more freedom.
The Pilgrims became friends with the Native American Indians. The Indians taught the Pilgrims how to survive in the hard east coast winter. They taught the Pilgrims how to farm, hunt, and fish. Almost a year later, in the fall, the Pilgrims wanted to give thanks to the Indians by hosting a large feast. They invited the Indians to join them, and this became the first Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving became an official national holiday many years later, thanks to U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.
So, please enjoy your Thanksgiving this November and in the future Novembers to come. I will be at the Subway Sandwich Shop eating a turkey breast sandwich topped with cranberry sauce!”
