Marion movie review: RED

Marion movie review: RED

Hello everyone!

This is Marion, still on my movie watching spree! (映画を観まくってるんです!)

Today I would like to talk to you about the last movie I saw (on DVD this time) : RED.

R.E.D is an acronym (頭字語), and stands for “Retired, Extremely Dangerous” (引退した超危険人物).

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is a retired CIA agent, living a quiet yet lonely life, receiving his government pension (年金) checks every month. The only thing he really looks forward to is talking to his case worker, Sarah, at the government pension center. However, his quiet life is disrupted when a squad team enters his house in the middle of the night and attempts to kill him. This marks the beginning of Frank and Sarah’s journey to find out who was behind this attack, with the help of some of Frank’s old friends, all like him… R.E.D!

I thought that this movie was very entertaining, as it manages to balance comedy and action quite well.

And, as often, I think that -more than the script itself, the actors are what make this movie worth seeing. Bruce Willis once again gets a ‘good-guy-having-a-bad-day’ role, but let’s be honest, these are the ones which suit him best! Helen Mirren show us a new side of her talent as a retired hardcore hitwoman handling enormous guns… And finally, John Malkovich has the best lines and literally steals the show by playing a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

So, even though this movie will not enter the top 10 movies of all time list, you can expect it to offer you a good 2-hour entertainment! It’s definitely a Friday night flick, easily enjoyed!

If you come across it at Tsutaya, give it a try!
